เป็นที่รู้กันว่าโทรศัพท์ระบบ GSM นั้นข้อความที่สนทนาทางอากาศจะถูกเข้ารหัส ทำให้การดักฟังนั้นทำได้ยาก  โดยที่อุปกรณ์ที่มีความสามารถทำได้นั้นมีราคาหลักล้าน

ในงาน DEFCON ที่ผ่านมาได้มีการทดลองอุปกรณ์ IMSI Catcher โดยการหลอก (spoof) โทรศัพท์มือถือว่าตัวอุปกรณ์นั้นเป็น base station ของผู้ให้บริการ  และทำให้ตัวมือถือมาเกาะที่อุปกรณ์นี้แทนที่จะเป็นเสาของ operator  จากนั้นตัวอุปกรณ์นี้ก็จะสั่งให้มือถือสื่อสารกับเสา (หลอก) โดยไม่มีการ encrypt ข้อมูล  เท่านี่ก็สามารถจะจับเสียงการสนทนาโทรศัพท์ GSM ได้เรียบร้อยแล้ว

ในที่ประชุม DEFCON นั้นได้สาธิตให้ดูว่าเพียงเปิดเครื่องมาไม่นาน  ก็มีโทรศัพท์ 30 เครื่องมาผูกอยู่กับเสา (หลอก) แล้ว

ที่สำคัญก็คือราคาของอุปกรณ์ที่ทำขึ้นมานั้นทั้งหมดแค่ $1500 และใช้ software open source ในการพัฒนา

คนในวงการมือถือคงจะรู้จักชื่อ Nexus One กันดีเพราะเมื่อปลายปีที่แล้วเป็นที่ฮือฮาว่า Google ได้ประกาศตัวโทรศัพท์ Android ในยี่ห้อของ Google เอง  ซึ่ง spec นั้นถือได้ว่าเป็นที่สุดของที่สุดในบรรดา Android phone ในขณะนั้น  ขนาดบางคนเรียก Nexus One ว่า iPhone Killer  ทำให้ผู้ผลิตหันมามองตลาดของ Android อย่างจริงจัง

แต่เนื่องจากการตลาดของ Google ที่ขายเฉพาะทาง Online เท่านั้นทำให้ผู้ที่อยากจะหยิบ จับ ก่อนซื้อต้องหาดูจากเพื่อนฝูงที่ซื้อมาก่อนแล้วเท่านั้น  ทำให้ยอดขายของ Nexus One นั้นไปเรื่อยๆ  ไม่ได้ถล่มทลายอย่างที่คิดกันไว้  ในขณะที่ยี่ห้ออื่นๆ ก็เริ่มมี smart phone ที่ spec ใกล้เคียงกันออกมาสู่ตลาด

ในที่สุดปลายเดือนที่ผ่านมา  ทาง Google ก็ประกาศที่จะยกเลิกการขาย Nexus One ทั้งหมด  โดยที่ภายหลังประกาศเพิ่มเติมว่าจะขายให้สำหรับ developer โดยที่จะให้เป็น Official Developer phone แทน G1  ซึ่งถือว่าเป็นการปิดฉาก Smart Phone ตัวเก่งนี้ไป  โดยที่มีเวลาอยู่ในตลาดเพียง 7 เดือน

นักวิจารณ์ก็มองการยกเลิก Nexus One นี้เป็นสองฝ่าย  บ้างก็ว่าการตลาดแบบ online ของ Google นั้นล้มเหลวไม่เป็นท่า  แต่ยังมีบางฝ่ายคิดว่าแท้ที่จริงแล้ว Google ไม่ได้แน้นที่จะขาย Google One เพื่อเอายอดขาย  แต่ที่จริงแล้วเพื่อเป็นการดึง Android ให้เป็นที่สนใจต่างหาก

ว่าไปแล้วก็มีประเด็นที่น่าคิดอยู่ไม่น้อย  เพราะเมื่อปลายปีที่แล้ว smart phone ที่ใช้  Android ก็มีแต่ G1, Hero และเครื่องที่ไม่ค่อยจะเป็นที่รู้จักอยู่ 2-3 รุ่น  แต่ ณ วันนี้ใครๆ ก็พูดถึง Android และมี Smart Phone รุ่นใหม่ๆ ที่ spec ดีกว่า Nexus One ออกมาทุกเดือน  มีผู้ผลิตทั้ง HTC, Motorola, Sony รวมถึงผู้ผลิตเครื่องราคาถูกเช่น iMobile, Wellcom  ส่วนทางด้าน application ก็พึ่งผ่าน 100,000 ไปหมาดๆ  ซึ่งถ้ามองในแง่นี้ก็ถือว่า Google ประสพความสำเร็จก็ได้

Most Android geek knows what Cyanogenmod is. and how good it is. It is a series of Android rom modification which add lots of function that the stock rom lacks.

The CM 6 which based on Froyo is on Alpha test now. Expect to release the final soon.

โครงการ Space Shuttle จะเหลือ mission อีก 2 ครั้งก่อนที่โครงการนี้จะปิดฉากลงอย่างเป็นทางการ  ทาง NASA มีโครงการที่จะให้ชาวเนทได้มีส่วนร่วมเป็นครั้งสุดท้ายโดยการส่งรูปตัวเองไปกับ Space Shuttle

เวปนี้จะให้เราเลือกส่งรูปไปกับ Mission อันใดอันหนึ่ง  โดยที่สุดท้ายเราจะได้เลข ID มาเพื่อพิมพ์ certificate หลังจากที่ mission นั้นเสร็จสิ้นแล้ว

ครั้งนี้ไม่ได้เป็นครั้งแรกที่ทางโครงการอวกาศเปิดให้คนทั่วไปได้มีส่วนร่วมอย่างนี้  อย่างเช่นการส่งชื่อไปกับยาน Kepler ซึ่งไปโคจรรอบดวงอาทิตย์  (blog post เดิม ที่นี่)  หรือการส่งภาพ scan ลายเซ็นไปกับยาน Cassini ไปยังดาวเสาร์ (อ่านต่อ ที่นี่)

The highlight of this year will be iPhone 4G which many have seen the pre-unofficial release last month already.

If the Supreme Command of the Empire commands you to turn right, can you resist?  Now Tom Tom has voice option when navigate to choose.  The newest one is Darth Vader voice.  The Dark Lord of the Sith himself will direct you to turn right at the corner or to stop when you reach your ‘destiny’.

It cost $12.95 to have him on the back seat of your car.  And for the Rebel, C3-PO, Yoda and Han Solo will come soon.  For me I’m more interested in R2-D2 one.

In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first computer with a hard disk drive (HDD).  The HDD weighed over a ton and stored 5 MB of data.

Currie Munce, research vice president for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (which has acquired IBM’s hard disk drive business), stated in a Wall Street Journal interview^[5] that the RAMAC unit weighed over a ton, had to be moved around with forklifts, and was delivered via large cargo airplanes. According to Munce, the storage capacity of the drive could have been increased beyond five megabytes, but IBM’s marketing department at that time was against a larger capacity drive, because they didn’t know how to sell a product with more storage.

Central World (CTW) is the latest victim of the Red Shirt protester.  It has evolved from the old World Trade Center (WTC), bought by Central Group and then renovate to a modern trendy shopping center.

Every year, people all over Bangkok come to see the New Year Light display at CTW.

But the light we saw at CTW this afternoon was different.

We will not remember you as it happen today, but we will remember you when you were in your most beautiful of your life.
