Nortel: Going Into the Dark

1173163 Nortel Network จากบริษัท telecom ชั้นนำของแคนาดาที่ราคาหุ้นพุ่งไปถึง $124 เมื่อปี 2000  จนขณะนี้ราคาหุ้นเหลือแค่ 12 เซ็นต์  และในที่สุดต้องขอคุ้มครองการล้มละลายจากศาล (Chapter 11)  เมื่อวันที่ 16 ที่ผ่านมา  ซึ่งเป็น 1 วันก่อนถึงวันกำหนดชำระหนี้กว่า สี่พันห้าร้อยล้านเหรียญ

Nortel พยายามแก้ปัญหาทั้งจะพยายามขายกิจการ Optical Network ที่ยังทำรายได้อยู่  หรือมีการคุยกับ Huawei เรื่องการขายบางแผนก  แต่ดูเหมือนจะไม่เป็นผล

บริษัทอายุ 113 ปีนี้มีประวัติศาสตร์ย้อนกลับไปถึงยุคของ Bell Canada  ที่ยิ่งใหญ่ในอดีต เป็นผู้นำทางด้าน Optical Network  และเริ่มหันเข้าสู่ enterprise  ที่ทาง Cisco คุมหัวหาดอยู่   มาเริ่มประสบปัญหาจากช่วงฟองสบู่ .com แตก  ยิ่งมาเจอเศรษฐกิจโลกช่วงนี้อีก

นี้คงไม่ใช้บริษัทแรกที่จะต้องเข้าสู่สภาพแบบนี้   คงต้องดูต่อไปว่าใครจะเป็นรายต่อไป

RIP – My Bros

I was shocked to learn that a friend of mine at airport project has pass away.  More over I just chat with him on Friday evening, only a day or a few hour before he’d gone.   For whatever reason, it is too soon for him.

He just get a new job.  The farewell e-mail to his airport friends on November 29 subject “‏e-mail สุดท้ายของสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ ” was not expected to be his last e-mail to everyone forever.  However, it was.

ถึงทุกท่าน
เนื่องจากเป็น วันทำงานวันสุดท้ายของสนามบิน สุวรรณภูมิ พอดีมี ปัญหามากมาย ใน 2-3 วันที่ผ่านมาเลยไม่ได้ ขอบคุณทุกคน ด้วยตัวเอง เลยขอใช่ e-mail ฉบับนี้ เป็น คำขอบคุณทุกคนแทน  ขอขอบคุณทุกคนที่คอยอบรม สั่งสอนผมมาตลอด 3 ปีกว่า ๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น พี่แก่, พี่กนก, พี่สหัส ( 3 คนที่สำคัญ ที่สุดที่ทำให้ผมได้มีโอกาศได้ร่วมงานกับกลุ่มคนที่สุดยอด กลุ่มคนที่สร้างระบบของสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ). พี่หน่อง ,พี่รัตนา , พี่เอ็ด ,พี่วิทยา , พี่ฮั่ว พี่เอก, พี่โจ็ก ,เจ๊จุ๋ม ,พี่หนึ่ง , พี่มาโนช ,พี่อ้น ,พี่เสือ , น้าตุ๋ย, พี่นุช ฯลฯ ผมขอขอบคุณทุกคนที่กล่าวถึงและที่ไม่ได้กล่าวถึงอีกมากมายหลายท่าน ขอขอบคุณที่ คอย อบรมบ่มนิสัยของผมมาตลอด คอยตักเตือนและ เป็นห่วงผม ให้ความอบอุ่นทั้งในเวลางานและไม่ใช้เวลางาน ในฐานะพี่ ในฐานะ หัวหน้าทั้งในสายงานและไม่ใช้สายงาน ทุกคน คอยให้ความรู้ , ค่อยให้คำปรึกษา ,ให้โอกาศในการทำงานกับผม แล้วก็สอน น น น สอนจนไม่มีอะไรจะสอนอะไรอีก และอำนวยความสะดวกให้ผมตลอดมา ทั้ง 3 ปีกว่า ๆ อะไรหลาย ๆ อย่างไม่เคยทำก็ได้ทำ ,ไม่เคยลองก็ได้ลอง ,ไม่เคยมีก็ได้มีต้องขอขอบพระคุณ ทุกท่าน ม๊าก มาก ๆๆๆๆๆ…

จากที่ผมเดินเข้ามาใน ABU เป็น แค่ junior คิดอะไรเองไม่ได้ ทำงานเองก็ไม่เป็น  และก็ไม่ ระบบ ระ เบียบ แต่ ปัจจุบัน ผม เป็น senior แล้ว (หรือเปล่าไม่แน่ใจ) แต่ผม ก็ มีความคิดขึ้นมามากเลยครับ สามารถคิดอะไรเองทำงานเป็น แก้ไขปัญหาได้ และอื่น ๆ เพราะทุกคน สั่งสอนผมมาทั้งนั้น ด้วยความเก่งของทุกคนทำให้ผมมีวันนี้ วันที่ปีกผมแข็งพอสมควรเพราะผมได้ทำงานกับคนเก่ง ๆ อย่างทุกคน แต่มันก็คือสัจธรรม งานเลี้ยงย่อมมีวันเลิกลา ขึ้นอยู่กับว่าใครเมาก่อน ใครเมาหลัง (พี่สหัส คออ่อนสุดเลยไปก่อน) ส่วนผมเป็นพวกคอแป๊บ เลยออกที่หลัง เพราะทุกท่าน จริง ๆ ขอบคุณมา ณ ที่นี้ คร๊าบบบ…สุดท้ายผมขอฝาก เด็ก ๆ ทีม Network ด้วยน่ะครับ ผมเข้ายังเป็น junior เหมือนผม เมื่อ 3 ปีที่แล้ว พวกเขายังไม่เก่งพอ เลยต้องขอแรง พี่ ๆ ทั้งหลาย อบรมสั่งสอนเหมือน ที่ สั่งสอนผม มาด้วยครับเคารพรักพี่ ๆ ทุกคนเลย

Deadline Approaching to Apply for New NASA Astronaut Class

HOUSTON — NASA’s deadline for accepting applications for the 2009 Astronaut Candidate Class is July 1. Those selected could fly to space for long-duration stays on the International Space Station and missions to the moon.
To be considered, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or math and three years of relevant professional experience are required. Typically, successful applicants have significant qualifications in engineering or science, or extensive experience flying high-performance jet aircraft.
Teaching experience, including work at the kindergarten through 12th grade level, is considered qualifying. Educators with the appropriate educational background are encouraged to apply.
After a six-month period of evaluation and interviews, NASA will announce final selections in early 2009. Astronaut candidates will report to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston during the summer of 2009 to begin the basic training program to prepare them for future spaceflight assignments.
