Last week I bought 2G Kingston DataTraveler 101R special edition (Year of the Rat) and plan to put my existing JetFlash 2G thumb drive as a file backup.
I expect this new USB drive to be empty or just has some bundled software in the drive but not the full locked partition with cripple software. Kingston tech support confirm that it cannot be removed. I may need to find a way to remove this partition in order to continue using my TrueCrypt security software.
They should have put a warning at the package that the bundled software cannot be removed.
So long Kingston. If you continue doing this, you will not get my money again.
Look at this astronaut install the ESA’s Columbus Laboratory to International Space Station (ISS). Would like to know what he thought when floating hundreds Km above the earth.
The International Space Station (ISS) has been equipped with a powerful new scientific laboratory. The Space Shuttle Atlantis delivered the Columbus Laboratory to the ISS and installed the seven meter long module over the past week. Columbus has ten racks for experiments that can be controlled from the station or the Columbus Control Center in Germany. The first set of experiments includes the Fluid Science Laboratory that will explore fluid properties in the microgravity of low Earth orbit, and Biolab which supports experiments on microorganisms. Future Columbus experiments include an atomic clock that will test minuscule timing effects including those expected by Einstein‘s General Theory of Relativity. Pictured above, mission specialist Hans Schlegel works on the outside of Columbus. Scientists from all over the world may propose and carry out experiments to be done on the laboratory during its ten year mission.

Australia has asked Indonesia’s navy to help stop thieves from stealing buoys which will be part of an Indian Ocean tsunami warning system.
Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology spokesman Geoff Love told a parliamentary hearing on Tuesday that Canberra plans to place two tsunami-warning buoys later this year in international waters between Australia and Indonesia.
“We are negotiating an agreement with the Indonesian government to make sure that they don’t become the victims of pirates and scrap metal collectors,” Love told the hearing.
Australia and the United States are helping to build the tsunami early warning system after a magnitude 9.15 earthquake off the Indonesian island of Sumatra killed up to 230,000 people around the Indian Ocean rim on December 26, 2004.
“We’ve found automatic weather stations for sale in Hong Kong and don’t want that to happen again,” he said.

Polaroid has decided to close down its factories in Massachusetts (USA), Mexico, and the Netherlands since they now plan to focus on other ventures such as portable printers for mobile phone images, Polaroid-branded digital cameras, digital cameras, televisions, and DVD players.
According to Tom Beaudoin, president, chief operating officer, and chief financial officer of Polaroid, they’ve decided to discontinue the making of instant film as they want to reinvent Polaroid so that it lives on for the next 30 to 40 years.Incidentally, the first instant camera was introduced in 1948 in the US, but is now obsolete. The company stopped making these instant cameras about a year ago.
Meanwhile, the death of Polaroid’s instant photography technology hasn’t come as quite the shocker — at least for those familiar with digital cameras and postage-sized memory cards.

The next generation of video disc which has been a war between HD-DVD (backed by Toshiba) and Blu-ray (backed by Sony). The was was going more than a year and make confusion enough that consumer are wait and see. The turning point in this war was early last month when Warner announce that they will support Blu-ray exclusively. That means 70% of movie release on high definition format will be on Blu-ray.
So long HD-DVD… we will (not) miss you.
