The Final Telegram

After 133 years in operation servicing all Thai people, it is time to an end. After April 30, 2008 the telegram service in Thailand will be terminated.

The good old telegram has been defeated by mobile phone, SMS and Internet e-mail which make telegram less and less popular. Currently there are around 100 telegrams per month while the cost of maintaining the system is around 25Mbaht monthly. This is the normal case of old technology was replaced by a new one.

I remember once in the school, we learn how to send the telegram and really send one as a homework. Waiting for telegram send to myself is quite exciting back then.

Now until Apr 30, there will be exhibition on telegram in Thailand at General Post Office (Bangrak) where you can send your last telegram to anyone.

iPhone Guy

Hi there!!

Now I’m officially a care taker of 16G iPhone. Actually it is mom’s but I will be the one who make it works. The first impression was the screen, so bright and crisp. I think the iPhone and I will get along well. Hope I’ll become iPhone guru soon.

The first problem is why it doesn’t like my mom’s SIM but I can use mine well. Umm

ใกล้จะเดินทางไปต่างบ้านต่างเมืองแล้ว งานนี้คงถ่ายรูปมาไม่ยั้ง สุดท้ายกลับมาดูที่บ้าน เสร็จแล้วก็ upload ขึ้นไปไว้บน Internet พอนานไปอาจจะจำไม่ได้ว่ารูปนี้เราถ่ายที่ไหนกัน

สำหรับผู้ที่มี GPS เรื่องนี้มีทางแก้ง่ายๆ ก็คือ ขณะที่ถ่ายรูปก็เปิดให้ GPS เก็บ track ไว้ หลังจากนั้นก็ใช้โปรแกรม GeoSetter (ฟรี) เพื่อ map รูปภาพกับตำแหน่งเข้าด้วยกัน เมื่อได้รูปที่มีตำแหน่ง GPS อยู่ด้วยกันแล้วก็ upload ไปที่เวปฝากรูปเช่น Flickr ซึ่งทางเวปนั้นจะสามารถไปแสดงตำแหน่งบนแผนที่ได้อย่างแม่นยำ แม่นแค่ไหนก็ลองดูในรูปแล้วกันครับ

อาทิตย์นี้จะลองไปใช้ดูที่โบนันซ่าเขาใหญ่ อยากรู้เหมือนกันว่ามันจะยุ่งยากหรือเปล่า?

iPod in Space

นี่ไม่ใช้ครั้งแรกที่มีข่าวว่ามีนักบินอวกาศนำ iPod ติดตัวไปขณะปฎิบัติภารกิจในอวกาศ แต่ดูเหมือนว่ารูปข้างล่างนี้จะเป็นการยืนยันว่ามี iPod ไปอยู่บน Space Shuttle จริงๆ

ถึงแม้ว่าไม่ได้เป็น iPod รุ่นล่าสุดของ Apple แต่คงเป็นความภูมิใจลึกๆ ของ Steve Jobs ละนะ

Final Flight of F-117A

ไม่น่าเชื่อว่าเครื่องบินรูปร่างล้ำสมัยนี้จะปลดประจำการในเดือนหน้า วันที่ 21 เมษายนนี้จะเป็นเที่ยวบินสุดท้ายของเครื่อง F-117A Night Hawk โดยบินจาก Holloman AFB กลับไปยัง Tonopah Test Range Airfield ที่เป็นที่บินขึ้นครั้งแรกเมื่อ 18 มิ.ย. 2524

เครื่องบินลำนี้มีบทบาทมากในช่วงสงครามอ่าว ช่วงปี 2534 แต่จะมีซักกี่คนที่รู้ว่าภาระกิจแรกที่ใช้เครื่องรุ่นนี้ก็คือการบุกปานามาในปี 2532

เครื่องรุ่นใหม่ๆ ที่จะมาแทน F-117A ก็คือ F-22 Raptor และ F-35 Lightning II

Let me have my full USB drive

Last week I bought 2G Kingston DataTraveler 101R special edition (Year of the Rat) and plan to put my existing JetFlash 2G thumb drive as a file backup.

I expect this new USB drive to be empty or just has some bundled software in the drive but not the full locked partition with cripple software. Kingston tech support confirm that it cannot be removed. I may need to find a way to remove this partition in order to continue using my TrueCrypt security software.

They should have put a warning at the package that the bundled software cannot be removed.

So long Kingston. If you continue doing this, you will not get my money again.

Internet slowdown

ช่วงนี้ขา Internet คงพบว่าเวปต่างประเทศเกิดอาการ load ช้ากันทั่วหน้า สาเหตุใหญ่คงเป็นเพราะขณะนี้ cable ใต้น้ำในช่วงของตะวันออกกลางเกิดขาด ซึ่งเรื่องนี้เคยเกิดกับ cable แถวเกาหลีใต้เมื่อปี 2545 มาแล้วครั้งหนึ่ง แต่ที่ไม่ธรรมดาในครั้งนี้ก็คือ cable ที่ขาดนี้เป็นเส้นที่ 4 ภายในสัปดาห์เดียว โดยที่ล่าสุดเป็นเส้นแถว United Arab Emirates ที่ขาด สาเหตุที่ตอนนี้พูดกันก็คือ เรือลากสมอเรือไปเกี่ยวเข้า หรือจะเกิดจากแผ่นดินไหวเมื่อหลายวันก่อน ตอนนี้คงได้แต่เดากันไป

Cable ที่ขาดนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการ SEA-ME-WE 4 (South East Asia – Middle East – Western Europe)

จริงๆ ว่าไปแล้ว traffic ส่วนใหญ่ที่จะมีผลกระทบน่าจะเป็น traffic ไปยุโรป แต่เวปที่เราเล่นส่วนใหญ่จะไปอเมริกาซะมากกว่า เลยไม่รู้ว่าจริงๆ แล้วมันมีผลกระทบกับการเล่นเนทในเมืองไทยจริงๆ เหมือนที่ ISP อ้างกันอยู่หรือเปล่า

iPhone 16 GB – iPod Touch 32 GB

อีกครั้งที่ความจุของอุปกรณ์เพิ่มขึ้นสองเท่า แต่อะไรก็คงไม่เร็วเท่ากับ iPod Touch และ iPhone จาก Apple สองวันก่อน Apple ประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการของ gadget ทั้งสองรุ่น โดยที่ราคาเท่ากันคือ $499

สิ่งที่เพิ่มมาจากรุ่นเดิมก็คือ memory ที่เพิ่มขึ้น ในขณะที่หลายๆ คนยังหวังว่า iPhone จะมีรุ่นที่เป็น 3G เร็วๆ นี้

Steve Jobs… You did it again!

From the same company that creates iPod, stunned the world with iPhone on Mac World 2007. Last year Steve Jobs said “We’re going to make some history together today” when he introduced iPhone. This year Steve Jobs, again, stunned the world with “The Thinnest Laptop on Earth!” – MacBook Air. Watch the YouTube video below and you will see.

Thinnest but not compromise specs at all. It has Intel Core 2 Duo, 2G of RAM, 13.3 inch wide screen LED display, 80GB HDD or 64GB SSD (Solid State Drive-Wow!!!), multi touch keypad similar to iPhone, built-in 801.11n WiFi, iSight web cam and USB. The battery life is 5 hours with wireless web browsing. Can’t wait to see what’s next? 3G iPhone perhaps?

Thumb Drive woes

I just lost data from my corrupt 2G thumb drive. I removed it from a hung notebook and the next time it is unreadable. 🙁 After a quick format and recovery software, I’ve got some data back but the file name is all changed. Lots of trip schedule in the past and some of the information for future trip are gone.

So I would like to remind everybody. DATA BACKUP is important event for your thumb drive.
